JUNIORS WEEKEND HIGHLIGHTS!

1stNovember 2025
U12 Comets
Another outstanding effort from the under 12s this week.

With South East Queensland's proclivity to enter lockdown at the mere thought of possibly getting wet, we considered ourselves lucky to get a game in.

A sombre moment of reflection at the start of the morning, serving as a timely reminder of the importance of safety in sport.

The effort with the bat was a carbon copy of last week, losing only half of our wickets and keeping the scoreboard ticking over for the duration.

Great to see the bowlers gaining confidence in setting their field, though remaining flexible enough to balance steadfast planning and acknowledging when strategy needs adjustment. Regan was a sterling example of the patience and determination the boys have been fortifying these last few weeks. His measured approach with the bat demonstrated what we have all been doing well to achieve 24*; and consistent line and length earning 3/3 from his 3 overs.

U13 Match Report for Week 4:

The boys were coming in hot off the previous night's Halloween sugar high for the second half of our match at Ferny Grove against Windsor North. We had 10 players, 3 of whom were carrying some niggling injuries (all related to other sports!) They were keen to secure their first win of the season but would still need to put in a good effort in the field, even with last week's epic run haul.

Before starting the match, both teams stood in unity in the centre of the field for a minute of silence for Melbourne junior cricketer Ben Austin along with other cricketers around the nation. It was a reminder that although cricket is a relatively safe sport, accidents can still happen. Our thoughts went out to Ben's family and friends.

Our bowlers were on the mark early, well supported by Lachie as keeper. Sam put a great effort in with the ball, making some adjustments to his technique and coming away with a wicket early. Ben was all over it with an amazing 3 wickets for 9 runs off 4 overs. We were lucky to secure supersub Callum to help us out as we needed to rotate players for injuries playing up and a blood nose. The team stuck in there, led by play-of-the-day winner Harrison, who despite a sore back managed to do his best bowling ever and pick up 3 wickets for 11 including one maiden over. Wickets to Archer and Harry as well and catches to Sam, Alex and Lachie ensured a win for Everton by over 50 runs.

Shout out to the Windsor North Mixed Violet coach, who our kids said was the nicest umpire from the opposition team that they've had!
U14 Comets

The U14s already had first innings points, so were looking for a chance at an outright win against Brisbane Grammar School on day two of their away match.

Before the start of play, the Comets and BGS players and coaches stood united, for a minute's silence, as a mark of respect for Ben Austin, who tragically passed away during the week.

Coach Chris had the boys pumped at the prospect of an outright win, but with the storm clouds looming overhead, it was always going to be a race against time for the Comets batsmen to make quick runs and then send BGS back in.

With Leo retiring before the start of play, Beau and Tirth opened the batting.  Both boys were batting well, until rain interrupted play for the first time.  Once the rain had passed, the boys were back into it, pushing for runs until Beau was bowled by for 4.  Will joined Tirth at the crease and the boys kept the scoreboard ticking over until Tirth retired on 11 not-out.  Quinn was next to bat and he and Will did a great job of looking for quick runs with excellent calling and running between the wickets.  With thunder rumbling in the distance, storm clouds brewing overhead and everyone vigilantly on the lookout for lightning, time pressure was building, so both boys really put their foot down, hitting some great shots and pushing even harder for runs.  Quinn was well caught for 14, smashing a lofted drive through mid-on, just as the rains returned and play was suspended again.  Will finished his innings on 12 not-out, earning shot of the day, with a cracking stroke through mid-wicket for 4.

With all the thunder and lightning activity and the weather radar showing an approaching storm cell, the decision was made by the coaches to end the game and let everyone get home to safety.  It turned out to be the correct decision, with a huge storm arriving minutes after everyone had left the ground.

The Comets finished the game 4-143 with BGS all out for 67
.
Not the outright victory they were hoping for, but another good win by the Comets, that keeps them at the top of the table.

U10 Blaze Comets
Match Overview:
The Comets arrived buzzing for Week 3, full of energy and early-morning chatter. It’s always a great sign when half the boys are already asking, “Coach, can we have a Zooper Dooper before we bat?” - the answer, as always, is a polite but firm nope! The vibe was spot-on though. From the warm-up throws to the first ball bowled, you could feel everyone settling into the rhythm of the season. For a group of 7-, 8-, 9- and 10-year-olds, their focus, teamwork, and sportsmanship are building beautifully. You can tell they’re starting to really love their cricket.

 Batting Highlights:
This week’s batting effort was a beauty. Noah, Kyan, and Rafferty lit up the innings with a fireworks show of boundaries; a combined 13 fours and 3 sixes! Walter looked composed and powerful, striking 16 runs from just 12 balls, including one sweetly timed four that came straight out of the middle. Everyone showed great intent to score, backing each other up and keeping the scoreboard moving. It’s great to see the confidence growing in every batter who steps out there.

Bowling Brilliance:

The bowling group looked switched-on and consistent from ball one. Flynn, Quinn, and Kyan led the way, keeping the run rate under four an over across their combined six overs; that’s serious control. Will celebrated his first wicket of the season, a big moment that had the team buzzing around him. The bowlers worked in pairs, building pressure and showing patience. Each week, they’re learning how to mix effort with accuracy, and it’s paying off.

 Team Spirit & Fielding Moments:
Fielding was a real highlight this week. Joshua and Artie set the tone with their enthusiasm, chasing everything, calling loudly, and keeping the team fired up. Freddie had a cracking moment when a mix-up between opposition batters turned into a full-blown traffic jam of confusion, and he swooped in cool as ever to back it up. The running between wickets (both in attack and defence) keeps improving - the awareness, communication, and energy in the field were top notch this week. Every single player contributed to the buzz and teamwork out there.

Coach’s Corner:

The only tweak we’ll focus on this week is keeping our cool when those exciting run-out chances pop up. Sometimes the smart play is just holding the ball, not firing it like we’re trying to break a world record for overthrows! But overall, what a joy this team is. Watching their friendships grow alongside their cricket skills is the best part of every Saturday morning. Bring on Week 4 - more learning, more laughter, and maybe a few fewer sticky Zooper Dooper fingers on the cricket balls
U10 Fire Comets
🏏Fire Comets – Round 3 Match Report
The Fire Comets battled hard in hot and windy conditions at Bray Park on Saturday, putting in a great team performance that was much closer than the final scores suggested.

Batting first, the boys got off to a solid start with Adhyan again leading the charge. The opposition bowled full and straight, testing our batters’ technique — a great learning experience that will serve the team well in future games.

A few run-outs (and some un-slid bats!) cost the Comets valuable runs, but there were plenty of highlights. Pat and Gabe each took superb wickets — one clean bowled, the other edged and neatly caught by Oli behind the stumps — while Roley showed outstanding courage, shrugging off a painful blow and cracking the next ball straight past the bowler.

Every player — Gabe, Oli, Pat, Roley, Tom, Adhyan, and Dhaksh — gave their all through 40 overs in tough conditions, showing great determination and team spirit.

Big thanks to all the parents for their help and support, and to Len for stepping up as stand-in coach this week. The boys can be proud of their effort — a real “winning performance” in attitude and spirit!
U10 Flare Comets
We won the toss and elected to bowl first, setting the stage for what proved to be an entertaining and closely contested match. The team showed significant improvement once again and were the stronger side for much of the game, but unfortunately couldn’t quite close it out in the final stages.

Our bowlers delivered a disciplined performance, sharing the wickets evenly across the attack. Arthur led the way with two wickets, while Alex, Joel, and Archer each claimed one. Edward also put in a great effort with the ball, keeping a good line. In the field, Yash took a magnificent catch on the boundary, and Alex impressed behind the stumps with two sharp stumpings.

The whole team backed up their bowling effort with a solid performance with the bat. Alex and Archer were the top scorers, showing great composure at the crease. Despite falling just short of the target, it was a spirited display from the entire side.

Overall, it was another strong performance, with clear progress being made in communication, teamwork, and focus. The boys can take plenty of positives from this match and will only continue to improve as the season goes on.
U12 Comets
Round 3

Another all-time, all-around effort from the u12s in a closely contested match on the weekend (though never in doubt). Great teamwork throughout the day, displaying a level of equanimity and grace that would make Buddha himself look like a hillbilly piece of trash.

Fantastic support in the field and well bowled again by all, focussing on bowling to the off-side. Though a long wait now for Archer (3fa) to bowl his hat-trick ball next week.

Exemplary communication carried through to our batting innings, with clearer and more assured dialogue between the batsmen. The importance of remaining at the crease to build an innings is now resonating with the boys, with an exhibition of some textbook defensive shots and more thoughtful running between the wickets. This equated to the loss of only 3 batsmen, with 4 retirees and 2 not out. Aviyan (30-odd) not out again, with a season average in the 90s now.

Things you might've missed from the sidelines... Every batsman refraining from lowering their standards to those of others, thereby maintaining integrity, dignity and peace. Truly a testament to their character!
U13 Comets
U13 Match Report for Week 3:

Things were looking rather grim for the start of our next match at Ferny Grove against WNJCC - we had 2 players away and another 3 came down ill shortly before the match, leaving us with only 8 players.

We won the toss and Archie decided we would try to bat for as long as possible. Our opening batters got us off to a great start, and Luke scored 13 off 23 balls. Archie also contributed 13 runs and all our players held in there to face as many balls as possible. We were 7 for 61 when our supersub Ryker entered the match as our last batter. He was happy to fill in for us at short notice despite already having a game on the afternoon, and gave us a total of 9 players. He took to the field to join Alex. There was a lighthearted comment from the crowd of, "We'll need a 50 partnership here, boys!" followed by someone else saying, "Better make that 100!" with subsequent chuckles from the assembled audience.

WJNCC were in high spirits to have their fielding almost done and dusted within 25 overs. But they were still out there an hour and a half later, and didn't get the chance to bat on this day! Not only did Alex and Ryker make that partnership of 50, they went on to 100, and then 150 - an Everton U13 Junior record!

Ryker smashed 16 boundaries to reach his first ever century (104 not out), with Alex (30)
playing some great shots and keeping Ryker out there to reach his century. The boys combined good communication with smart running between the wickets, showing impressive stamina as the morning got hotter. The crowd went wild as Everton batted till the end of the morning's play, finishing with 8 for 211. Rich even commented it was the best innings he's seen in cricket!

Despite all these heroics, Ryker still needed to share 'play of the day' with Heidi, who not only made a stellar morning tea but also dragged an esky across two cricket ovals and did the scoring.
U14 Comets

The U14s took on Brisbane Grammar School in a two-day, away match.

It was a tricky looking wicket, with a notoriously slow outfield, so Everton were relieved when BGS won the toss and chose to bat.

Our boys looked pumped when they took to the field and that certainly came through in their play.  From the very first ball, the chat from the boys was up, full of energy and when Benno clean bowled one of the BGS openers in the first over, it was clear the boys were set for a cracker of a game!  Charlie Jeffs opened the bowling at the other end and bowled well, getting massive outswing, just beating the edge multiple times, but without luck.  Benno snared another cleaned bowled in his second over and from there, Everton never took their foot off.

Captain Leo opted for leg-spin for the first bowling change and it paid dividends straight away, with our fill-in player, Charlie bagging two quick wickets.  Ryker, who must've been running on fumes having made 104 not-out earlier in the day filling in for the U13s,  bowled well from the other end, but without luck, just missing the edge and the stumps on numerous occasions.  Leo brought himself on to bowl for the next change and straight away had the batsmen struggling how to play him.  It wasn't long before Leo had bagged himself two wickets.

All our bowlers bowled well and the boys were fantastic in the field, including two sharp catches (Thomas and Charlie Jeffs) and a run-out by a quick thinking Thomas, who turned a dropped catch into a run-out.  Everton had BGS all out for 67.  The wickets were shared between  Ben (2), Charlie (2), Leo (2), Thomas (1) and Callum(1).

The Comets run chase started with our ever reliable opening batting combination of Thomas and Ben, who got the job done, yet again!  It was a slow outfield, so boundaries were hard to come by, so the boys put in a huge effort with their running between the wickets!  Benno retired 30 not-out, with he and Thomas having made 62 of the required 68 in quick time.  Thomas retired shortly after on 9 not-out, with he and Leo having made the first innings winnings runs, without loss.

The slow outfield and some great fielding, limited the run making for our next bats.  Charlie Jeffs batted well for 4, as did Callum for 5, until they were both well caught.  Leo looked rock solid at the crease and ended the day's play on 9 not-out.

A great first day and solid first innings win by the U14 Comets!!!  They've put themselves in a great position for the chance of an outright win next week.

18th October 2025
U10 Flare Comets
After a solid start to the season last week, we were all looking to see the improvement in the boys…. and what an improvement we saw!

After losing the toss, led by our captain of the day Arthur.. the team took to the field and immediately started to put the batsmen under pressure. Some great consistent bowling from Arthur, Alexander and Joel keeping the scoring down, Eddie and Archer took advantage to take some great wickets with straight bowling. Special mention to the team, who had lots of energy and excitement in the field which was a great improvement on last week. Also to Archer (2 Wickets at only 4 runs) and Eddie who ended up with 4 wickets. Keeping the opposition to under 100 runs was a great start to the game.

After the change of innings, Flare kept up the pressure and started on fire. Archer and Eddie put on a sold opening partnership, before Blake came in and started to hit several boundaries. Blake top scored with 23 off his 17 balls. Solid batting in the middle order was followed by Yash (21) and Alex (22) finishing off the innings in style with several classy boundaries. The team ended their innings on 151.

Overall it was a huge improvement on week #1, and the boys really looked like they enjoyed being out there.
U10 Blaze Comets
Week 2 Match Report

Week 2 and the Comets were ready to light up the morning sky again! The sun was out, the grass was green, and the buzz around the field said it all - game day was on. We missed having Will with us this week (his energy and constant encouragement are always a big part of our team vibe), but the boys lifted well and carried that same spark through the morning.

Batting Highlights

Freddie and Walter looked sharp at the crease, showing real improvement in their footwork and shot selection. Both watched the ball beautifully from hand to bat, playing a mix of strong defensive strokes and some classy attacking shots. Rafferty was seeing the ball like it was the size of a beach ball - timing it sweetly and calling loudly enough to make sure even the umpires stayed awake! It’s great seeing the team’s focus on good technique and communication starting to come together. That running between wickets? Getting quicker every week!

Bowling Brilliance

What a bowling performance! Artie stole the headlines this week with a spectacular spell that included not just four wickets… but a HAT-TRICK! The crowd went wild (well, the parents did anyway). He even nearly snagged a fifth with a tough caught-and-bowled chance. It was the perfect example of how sticking to the basics - good rhythm, accuracy, and focus - makes the ball do the work. Josh backed it up with consistent bowling all morning, and Quinn’s leg-spin had more mystery than a magic show. That line and length was so good no one could pick it.

Team Spirit & Fielding Moments

Kyan led from the front as captain this week, bringing awesome energy and constant encouragement to his teammates. Noah was electric in the field, always backing up and keeping the pressure on. The boys’ fielding overall was a highlight with quick movement, solid throws, and plenty of teamwork. The loud cheers for wickets and kind words after any mistakes showed exactly what we’re building this season: mates who’ve got each other’s backs.

Coach’s Corner

This week I was really proud to see what we’ve been working on at training showing up in the game - focus in the field, support for each other, and great effort from start to finish. Every player contributed, every player smiled, and every player is growing. That’s what it’s all about.

Looking ahead, there are a few things we’ll keep chipping away at - watching the ball all the way through our shots, then switching straight into strong, confident running between wickets. We’re getting there with our calling, and it’s great to see a few voices starting to step up! Let’s aim for everyone to be loud and clear with their “yes” and “no” calls so there’s no confusion and we run as one.

That confidence will keep growing each week as we play, learn, and practise. Whether it’s in the nets or in the backyard, taping up a tennis ball to swing like a “swing king.” Keep playing, keep smiling, and keep thinking about those little parts of the game that make a big difference.

On to Week 3 - more runs, more fun, and maybe a few fewer grass stains (but no promises!)
U10 Fire Comets
🏏 Fire Comets to Victory!

The Fire Comets turned up the heat this weekend with a brilliant all-round performance, posting 126 runs for just one wicket and restricting the opposition to 88 runs with 9 wickets taken. In the U10’s format (which gives the +4 runs for each wicket taken), this achieved an overall result of 178 to 92. Go Fire!

Batting:

Adhyan (30 off 14) led from the front again, with Tom (24 off 16) and Oliver earning the Super-Improver Award for a fantastic 23 off 15, including a towering six! Solid contributions from Dhaksh, Roland, Dom, Gabe and Pat helped build a true team total — proof that everyone played their part.

Bowling:

The Comets’ “80% power, 100% accuracy” approach to bowling paid off in style. Wickets were shared across Dhaksh, Dom, Roland, Oliver, Gabe and Tom, while Pat (2 overs for just 5 runs!) and Adhyan kept the pressure on with pinpoint bowling (and were only unlucky not to convert that to wickets this week).

Fielding & Communication:

The team’s energy and calling between wickets hit another level again — a real credit to the boys and the work they’re putting in at training. The catching opportunities will keep coming, and we’ll keep working on converting them. It’s an easy bet to know that the intent and teamwork will continue to be top-notch and will improve week on week.

Coach’s note:

It’s hard to single any one player out when every player contributes to such a high level. The boys are listening, learning, and lifting each week — and that’s what makes this group so special.

🔥 Go Fire Comets! 🔥
U12 Comets
The first taste of victory for the U12s in Round 2!!!

According to Google, "winning" is synonymous with "achieving". And while we achieved the feat of scoring more runs than our opposition (i.e. winning), some of the improvements for our team that helped facilitate the result include:

Batting:

1 less dismissal in our innings
3 batsmen reaching the retirement requirement
77 more balls faced 356.45% increase in total runs made... If we continue on this trajectory we should post around 787 next week...

Fielding:

1 run out
 3 maiden overs
12 less overthrow runs (zero this week)
13 fewer wides, averaging less than one wide every two overs

Not least, but lastly, shout outs to Aviyan (60* from 33 balls!!!), Matty (48* from 44) and Jacob (retiring). All of the bowlers were on the money and shared the wickets, though multiple for Ollie (2/7 from 2.4 overs).
U13 Comets
U13 Match Report for Week 2:

The team completed the second half of their match at home against a strong opposition.

After a full day in the field last week, we started off batting and were then back in the field again a little sooner than we'd hoped! Archer was outstanding with the bat, hitting 26 runs including 5 awesome boundaries! Shout out to our new player Maxwell who looked very comfortable batting during his 8 runs, and Sam who also did well for 7 off 15 not out.

Alex (bowled) and Luke (catch from Archer) took a wicket each to round out the match.

The play of the day went to Joe for keeping his cool in his very first batting session and being our only retiree for the game.

We lost by quite a bit, but cricket is a great game for building resilience. And as someone rather wise once said, "I never lose. I either win or I learn", so let's just say that we learnt quite a bit.

We missed Lachie from our team this match but look forward to having him back next week.

Congrats to Joe for earning the Play of the Day award
!
U14 Comets

The U14s closed out day two of their match with Wilston Norths at home, with a resounding win!!!

Our boys were on fire with the bat, losing only three wickets, to finish 3-268 vs 144.

Our opening bats of Thomas and Ben set a great foundation last week, finishing the day at 0-26.  Day two started with Thomas retiring 4 not-out before the start of play, so that meant Aaron would open with Ben.  Aaron opened his innings with a blistering cut shot through point for four and from there, the runs kept flowing.  It looked like Aaron and Ben were set for a big partnership until a well thrown, direct-hit saw Aaron run-out on 21. Next man in Beau, kept the scoreboard ticking over with Ben, until Ben retired not-out on 27.

The next batsman at the crease was Ryker, who marched out to the wicket like a man on a mission and what a mission it was!  Playing an inspired innings, Ryker had the opposition clueless at times.  It didn't matter what field Wilston Norths set, or where their bowlers bowled, Ryker was all over it.  He dispatched the ball to all parts of the ground, with outstanding technique and timing, including a monster six to backward square and finished unbeaten on 53!  Truly, a Captain's Knock!!!  Check out Ryker's pic - hard to tell if he's happy or not with his innings.........😜

The rest of the Everton line-up continued the batting charge, with a string of not-out innings.  Beau retired no-out on 12 off 28, Quinn made a quick-fire 21 not-out off 26 (including 5 fours), Tirth 15 not-out off 25 and Will 15 not-out off 31.  Living up to his nickname "The Cannon", Callum hammered 33 off 17, including 6 fours and a six, before being caught behind and disappointingly, Christiaan was run-out from a direct hit on 3, just when it looked like he'd settled in.

Experimenting with a new batting line-up, intended for stability and/or fire-power at the tail of the innings, Leo and Charlie came in at 10 and 11.  Their ability to make quick runs or steady the ship wasn't needed this innings, so they just kept the runs coming!  Unfortunately the looming storm and a crack of lightning ended the game prematurely, robbing Leo and Charlie of the chance to really "tee off" and show what they can do.  Leo finished with a whirlwind 19 not-out off 12 and Charlie on 2 not-out off 5.  Having been in the hot field all afternoon, without much luck and with plenty of overs still to come, given how well Leo had been batting and how well Charlie hit his first couple, Wilston Norths would've most likely been very happy the storm cut their innings short!

It was a great day, with plenty of impressive innings by the boys and an outstanding win by the U14 Comets!!!

11/10/2025 - Junior Cricket is Back!!!

The 2025/26 Summer Season is off and running !!!
U10 Blaze Comets

A Blazing Start to the Season
The morning sun had barely climbed over the trees when our Blaze Comets bounded onto the field. Wide-eyed, full of energy, and fuelled by the kind of excitement only a first game can bring. Helmets were shining, shoelaces (mostly) tied, and the buzz in the air said one thing: cricket season has arrived! From the very first over, the focus on teamwork, encouragement, and effort shone through like a well-timed cover drive. Every shout of “well bowled!”, “great try!”, and “unlucky mate!” echoed the values we’ve been building at training - fun, learning, kindness, and playing for each other.

Leadership in Action – Captain Josh
Leading the side for our first match was Josh, our captain of the day, who showed a perfect mix of intent and joy in his leadership. He worked hard to keep everyone switched on and smiling, leading with the kind of quiet confidence that made his teammates want to give their best. Josh didn’t just talk about effort, he lived it. During his batting innings, he took a tough blow to the ribs from a well-struck delivery. It’s something no one hopes for, but the way he handled it was inspiring. After a few deep breaths, he pulled himself together, adjusted his gloves, and went right back to business - finishing his innings with absolute class. It was the epitome of true leadership: courage, composure, and character.

Fielding Magic & Team Spirit
In the field, the Comets looked like they’d been practising for years. Every player stayed alert, ready for the ball, and none more so than Will, whose effort and awareness across the innings was a standout. He seemed to appear wherever the ball went - part-ninja, part-magnet. The team vocal encouragement was something special. Whether a teammate nailed a play or narrowly missed one, the shouts of support kept coming. That kind of encouragement is gold, it’s the heartbeat of what we’re building as a team. Our conversations during the day showed that the kids are starting to connect the dots - what we practise at training really matters, because those skills are the ones we use most in the game. Backing up throws, staying ready in the field, and hustling after every ball—these small habits are becoming big wins.

Bowling Brilliance
Our bowling effort as a group was fantastic from start to finish. What stood out wasn’t just the wickets or the accuracy, it was the teamwork behind the scenes. Every time the ball was hit, bowlers and fielders alike were alert and backing each other up like seasoned pros. That’s a life skill right there: covering your mates and making sure no play goes to waste. We had some terrific moments with the ball, but one standout deserve a mention, Quinn. His couple of overs were a story of resilience and improvement. His first two balls were a little wobbly and off-line, but what followed was pure class. He found his groove, dialled in his line, and started spinning the ball like a casino roulette wheel! Overall, it was an all round great effort from the whole team with the ball, showing that effort & persistence always pays off.

Batting Highlights
When it was our turn with the bat, the Blaze boys carried the same energy and teamwork into their partnerships. The three golden goals for our batting were front of mind:
1. See the ball, hit the ball – Eyes on, ready to swing.
2. Loud, confident calling – “YES!”, “NO!”, and the always-dramatic “WAIT!” could probably be heard back in the clubhouse.
3. Run hard and slide the bat – There were some textbook runs between wickets, with effort and communication leading the way.
Every batter contributed, showing courage and teamwork. It wasn’t about chasing a huge score, it was about building partnerships, communicating, and putting effort into every run. The kids are learning fast that runs come from trust, talk, and teamwork.

Coach’s Corner
What stood out to me more than any stat or score was the character of this team. The Blaze Comets are learning that cricket isn’t only about sixes and wickets, it’s also about how you respond when things don’t go your way, how you lift your mates, and how you enjoy every moment of the game. As we huddled up after the game, I reminded the kids—and the parents too— that the scoreboard fades, but character lasts. Every cheer, every high-five, every “good try” is shaping these young cricketers into great teammates and great humans.

U10 Fire Comets

The new Fire Comets kicked off their season with a great display of energy and teamwork against a well-drilled opponent, finishing 129 to 117. While the scoreboard didn’t go our way, there was a lot to like about how the boys played and supported each other throughout the match.

It was fantastic to see their team communication already coming through on game day. Oliver set a high standard in the field by calling clearly on throws, and by mid-game the whole team was working together and communicating with confidence.

Dom led the way in encouragement, setting the tone for a team that celebrates each other’s efforts. With the bat, Tom showed great awareness and intent, turning small chances into extra runs through sharp calling and decisive running.Adhyan’s innings was another highlight: 32 from just 15 balls, featuring five fours and a six, all with a great attitude. Gabe and Roland kept the momentum going, adding valuable runs through smart calling and positive play.

All up, it was an excellent first outing for the Fire Comets; full of enthusiasm, teamwork, and potential!

U10 Flare Comets

The U10 Flare Comets took to the field as a team for the first time, taking on Wilston.  The Comets won the toss and put Wilston into bat.

Our bowling attack performed well throughout the innings, with all our players really putting in a big effort.  Unfortunately, Wilston managed to post too challenging a total and despite their best efforts, our boys couldn't chase it down.

Although the result wasn't a win, the effort and commitment displayed by every single player was phenomenal.  For a side playing together for the very first time, the level of teamwork and support for one another was truly inspiring.

This match is just the start for the Flare Comets, and we are incredibly proud of the way the played as a team and represented the club. We look forward to seeing how they build on this promising foundation in the weeks to come!

U12 Comets

A resounding 2nd place for the U12s in their first outing of the summer, though many positives to outweigh the result.

With an entire team that has missed the developmental milestones of U11 cricket, a year of underdog status is always on the horizon. Yesterday was the first game of "when you're out, you're out" cricket for all involved, and I could not be more proud of how every single team member handled their dismissal: no tears, no arguments and no dramas. It is a testament to the maturity of the group and an attribute that I value as both a parent and a coach.

And while the loss will bring no points to to team, our goals for yesterday's game were accomplished.
 - Supporting our teammates: achieved
 - No negativity towards ours or others: achieved
 - Having fun: achieved and (hopefully) surpassed

Our individual and statistical results from yesterday provides us with a yardstick to identify strengths and shortcomings, to which we can aspire to improve upon and eclipse in our next game and beyond.

U13 Comets

The U13 team did well especially those boys who played their very first official cricket game!

The Comets won the toss and decided to field.

As the weather heated up it got pretty tough out there, but the boys stuck it out really well. There were lots of very cool catches, Tom caught a great one, as did Harrison, Maxwell, Sam, Archer and Alex (who got play of the day for a particularly spectacular catch! Coach Stu said he couldn't reinact it without ending up in hospital). Archer and Harrison took 2 wickets each and Sam, Tom and Luke got 1 each as well. There was some good hussle in the field and even a run out.

The team is looking forward to batting next week!

Special mention to Alex, who took out the "Play of the Day" trophy!

U14 Comets

The U14s took on Wilston Norths at home, with the Comets bowling first.

Our opening bowlers of Charlie and Ben bowled well, with a couple half-chances, but weren't able to break the partnership of Wilston Norths' opening batsmen.  Our next bowling pairs all bowled well, but without luck and it looked like the Wilston Norths' openers could be set for a big innings.

Quinn led the Everton fightback taking the first wicket, thanks to a gem of a ball and a lightning fast stumping by Ben.  From there, the boys got down to business and the wickets kept tumbling.  Quality bowling and top-shelf fielding led to the boys having Wilston Norths all out for 144.  A great effort considering at one point they were 0-69.

With Ryker as captain, marshalling the troops in the field, it was a typically inspired team effort from the boys with everyone stepping up when it was needed. Our two debutants fit right in, with both of them making excellent contributions.  Christiaan held two important catches and Beau opened his bowling account with a 3fa, including a wicket (caught and bowled) with his very first ball for Everton!

The wickets were shared between Ryker (1), Quinn (2), Beau (3), Leo (2), Thomas (1) and Ben (1).

Thomas and Ben opened our batting innings with 30 mins of play left in the day and did a solid job, seeing off their opening bowlers and finishing 0-26.

The boys will start fresh next week, with a solid start and a quality batting line up!

U13 COMETS

The EDCC U13 Comets took on Tewantin Noosa for day two of their semi-final.

It was an absolute nail-biting, cracker of a match - exactly how a final should be!

The Comets set a total of 280 for Noosa to chase and their opening batsman came out firing.  Both of them playing impressive innings and retiring not-out.
The first two sessions definitely belonged to Noosa, but through inspired fielding and catching, the Comets fought back and got themselves back in the game.  Big shout-outs to Alex Hayes and Tirth Patel for taking amazing, pressure catches to keep the Comets in the fight and inspiring their team.
It was a real arm-wrestle, with Noosa keeping the scoreboard ticking over and the Comets continuing to take wickets at key moments.
It came right down to the wire, with Noosa on their last wicket, needing 5 runs.
To their credit, Noosa held their nerve and got the win, ending our boys' season.

It wasn't the finish that our boys wanted, but they can hold their heads high for a fantastic season and the way they played it.
There were some amazing achievements and milestones this season, that the team can be extremely proud of.

- Our maiden centurion, Lennox Leeder
- Ben Moore taking 7 wickets in a match
- Alex Hayes, Ryker Rostron, Henry Jacobsen and Leo Brumm all selected for representative teams
- Charlie Jeffs #1 and Ben Moore #2 finishing the season as the competition leading wicket takers

Special thanks to all the parents, family and friends who have supported the team this season!

U13 COMETS
It's FINALS time!!!!

Congrats to the EDCC U13 Comets who finished second on the table, booking a home semi-final against Tewantin Noosa.

Tewantin won the toss and sent the Comets in to bat.

Our opening pair of Thomas "China" Fegan and Ben "Benno" Moore got the Comets off to a cracking start, with both retiring not out and Benno bagging a half century - 65.
Leo "Vinch" Brumm,  Ryker "Rocket" Rostron and Lennox "Iceman" Leeder kept the scoreboard ticking over with handy innings until Noosa staged a fightback, taking several quick wickets, putting the pressure right back on the Comets.  But, with typical EDCC determination, our lower order bats, Henry "Jonty" Jacobsen and Aaron "Azza" Rony steadied the ship and got the runs flowing again.

The Comets finished the day unbeaten with 9 - 280, putting themselves in a commanding position, with every chance of getting the win next weekend.
Special mentions to Ben "Benno" Moore, who finished with a heartbreaking 99 in the second last over of the innings and Thomas "China" Fegan for yet another not-out innings and his unbreakable defense and selfless play, in trying to help get Benno to his maiden century.
