SENIORS WEEKEND HIGHLIGHTS!

Semi-final time!!!

The Everton C2 Comets took on Waraba for day one of their 2 day semi-final at Marchant Park.  Waraba finished top of the table and the Comets finished fourth, so the Dads and Lads were going to have bring their A game!  After inspecting the pitch, both teams commented on what a green top the deck was and it was clear that whoever won the toss would be choosing to bowl and that's exactly what Waraba did.

Leo and Quinn opened the batting innings for the Comets and set about laying the foundations with rock solid defence. The boys were both looking confident and settled, until Quinn was given out, in a controversial LBW decision.  It turned out it was to be one of those days where the luck just didn't seem to go the Comets' way, with Chris and Ben also being questionably adjudged LBW later in the innings - but that's cricket.  Before being dismissed, Leo, Chris and Ben all played with confidence, great technique and power hitting, dispatching balls to all parts of the ground, pushing the total along.  The tail of the Comets' innings was held together brilliantly by Wayne with a reliable, steady knock to finish not-out.  The Comets put in a solid effort with the bat finishing 10-142, with the stand-out batsmen : Leo 29 off 57, Ben 27 of 48, Chris 43 off 51, Wayne 18 not-out off 49.

The Dads and Lads started their bowling innings knowing they couldn't afford any loose deliveries and would have to be switched on in the field, taking every chance.  It looked like the boys had started in spectacular fashion in the very first over, when Ben fired in a rocket that took the edge and Brad at keeper, held the sharp chance down leg side.  But, the huge, team appeal by the Comets was surprisingly and frustratingly turned down by the umpire. Tom Clapham opened from the other end, with his consistent line and length swing bowling, creating a great partnership with Ben, restricting runs and building pressure. The breakthrough came in the 7th over when an outswinger from Ben took the edge and Mr Reliable, Duncan, held the sharp chance at first slip.  Lennox replaced Ben after his excellent spell of 1-1 off 4 overs and continued the great bowling partnership with Tom.  The next wicket came when yet again, Duncan held another sharp chance at first slip, giving Tom a well deserved wicket.  Keeping his fantastic run of form with the ball going, Tom finished his spell with 1-8 off 6 overs.  The final bowling change saw spin introduced with Leo and Quinn.  Both boys went desperately close to taking a wicket with their first overs.  Leo's near chance came when he pitched the ball wide of off stump, turned the ball an absolute mile, catching the batsman completely unaware, only to see the ball pass centimetres over the top of middle stump.  Quinn's near chance was just as impressive, setting the batsmen up brilliantly.  He bowled five leg breaks in a row, that the batsman watchfully left and on the very last ball of the day, Quinn delivered a beautiful wrong-un. The batsmen managed to hit the ball at the very last second, but the ball went straight down, hitting his foot and then rolled back toward the stumps, just missing off stump by millimetres.  Waraba finished the day at 2-48.

The Dads and Lads are still in this match!  A couple early wickets next week could turn the game on its head!

The Dads and Lads are in the finals!!!

The Everton C2 Comets took on Carina in day two of their 2 day home game on Jim Niebling oval, knowing they needed a victory to have any chance of making the finals.

Captain Gibbo and Rony started off the innings for day 2 and Rony made it clear he was there to make runs - and make runs fast!!! Rony's attacking play forced Carina to push their field back and adjust their bowling attack and when Gibbo joined Rony in the attacking shot making, Carina were at at a loss of how to set their field. When Rony was caught, that brought Chris to the crease with Gibbo and they started building an innings until Gibbo was out LBW.  Chris remained the backbone of the innings with solid defence, power hitting and quick singles until he was out for 38 having seen the Dads and Lads take first innings points. The Comets were all out for 133 when Wayne was caught for 9.

Having gained the first innings win, the Comets took to the field for their bowling innings, intent on taking as many wickets as quickly as possible for the bonus points, or even hoping for an outright win.  Despite their best efforts, the Dads and Lads bowling attack just couldn't take a wicket and Carina went to the tea break without losing a wicket.

The tea break Captain's speech from Gibbo had the boys pumped and when they came back on, the intensity was through the roof and it was only a matter of time until Tom made the breakthrough with a clean bowled in the 20th over.  Next over Quinn joined the party with a wicket, thanks to a sharp catch at point by Leo. The next over saw Tom break the game wide open, taking 3 wickets in one over!!!  That's three weeks running, Tom had snared a 4fa!

Benno and Aaron bowled brilliantly without luck, both having dropped chances off their bowling, and to their credit, Carina rallied and kept out the Comets' bowlers until Benno fired in an absolute rocket that smashed into off stump in the 35th over, putting Carina at 6-83.  When Gibbo brought Tom back into the attack, the Dads and Lads on-field chat went to a new level, knowing that today was the day that Tom bagged his "Michelle"!  After multiple half-chances, Tom finally had his 5fa, when he bowled a beautiful outswinger that found the edge and was held by Brad, at keeper, giving Tom the amazing figures of 5-20 off 11 overs!

The days' play finished with Carina at 7-151.

Special mentions to Chris "Rusty" Rostron for his rock solid batting performance to get the team over the line and first innings points and Tom "TC" Clapham on a well earned 5fa!!!

The first innings win, combined with the bonus points from the second innings wickets means that the DADS AND LADS ARE INTO THE FINALS!!!!!  A huge effort by the team!!!

Fighting to make the finals!!!

The Everton C2 Comets took on Carina in day one of their 2 day home game on Jim Niebling oval.

The Dads and Lads took to the field knowing they needed a win to remain in the hunt for the final and the boys were pumped, raring to go. Captain Gibbo handed the new ball to Aaron and Tom  Clapham and the boys maintained their excellent form from last week, with Tom snaring a bowled in his very first over!  The boys' consistent line and length bowling, with support from sharp fielding, built pressure on the Carina batsmen, allowing Tom to bag another clean bowled in the sixth over.  Two overs later, Tom had another wicket when Leo held a pressure catch at mid-off and Tom's next over saw him snare an LBW, giving him another 4fa!

A bowling change saw Quinn and Ben with the ball.  Ben started in spectacular fashion with a hooping inswinging yorker on his first ball, that smashed into the stumps for a clean bowled.   Two balls later, Ben had another wicket when Leo took a brilliant, high-ball catch at mid-off to put Carina at 6-40.  The next bowling change saw Leo and Thomas Fegan with the ball and both boys got quick results bagging an LBW each.  To their credit, the Carina batsmen staged a fightback and pushed the score out to 8-119 at the tea break.  In a brilliant piece of captaincy, Gibbo brought Lennox on to bowl the first over after lunch with immediate results, when Lennox took the final two wickets in his first over, finishing Carina's innings at 10-122.

The Comets opened the batting with Quinn and Leo and the boys started the innings with watchful defence.  When Leo was dismissed LBW in the fourth over, that brought Thomas Fegan to the crease.  Carina's bowling attack was a combination of consistent line and length from one end and lively, unpredictable pace and bounce from the other, which Thomas felt the full brunt of when he was struck on the hand and retired hurt.  Ben joined Quinn at the crease and got off the mark with a textbook leg glance for 4.  He and Quinn then steadied the ship, until Ben was caught at mid-on with the score at 2-28.   Lennox and Quinn continued to build the Comet's innings through a mixture of power hitting and solid defence.  When Quinn was caught at mid-on, Thomas Fegan returned to the crease and built a steady partnership with Lennox until Thomas was out LBW on the second last ball of the day.

The Comets finished the day at 4-59, needing another 64 runs for fist innings points and a chance at staying in the finals.

Special mention to Tom "TC" Clapham for another 4fa!!!

Back to form!!!

The Everton C2 Comets played day 2 of their two-day away game against Wynnum at Marchant Park on  a much improved pitch.  Day one of the match was abandoned after it was decided that the pitch was unsafe to play on, so it was agreed by the captains to play the remainder of the game in a One Day game format.

With Ben and Lennox having been dismissed on day one,  day two started with Thomas and Quinn at the crease.  The innings was a slow, steady build of runs, with handy contributions from Lennox (14), Quinn (24),  Thomas (20) and Leo (31).  The highlights of the batting innings were the Father and Son partnership between Wayne and Leo and Wayne dispatching a full-toss for a monster 6 over square leg.

The Comets finished their innings all out for 135.

With Lennox out sick, the keeping duties fell to Chris and he was in the action right from the start, bagging a caught behind from Ben in his first over. The next over saw Tom Clapham snare his first wicket and the start of a brilliant opening bowling partnership from Ben and Tom Clapham, with both boys taking regular wickets, having Wynnum 5 down for just 3 runs after 6 overs. Aaron continued the quality attack with brilliant line and length swing bowling and a barrage of yorkers.  To their credit, the Wynnum batsmen were able to hold him out and stage a fight back.  Tom Clapham came back for his second spell, slowing the runs and taking another wicket to give him a well deserved 4fa.  At the other end, Aaron finally got some rewards for his outstanding bowling with an LBW.  When Ben came back on for his second spell, it took one over for him to get the final wicket thanks to an outstanding high ball catch from Aaron.

Wynnum were all out for 95, giving the Comets the win!!!

A great result for the Dads and Lads.  Special mention to Tom(TC) Clapham and Benno for their 4fas, great glove work by Chris with 3 catches and not to be kept out of the match, amazingly, Brad managed to get credit for a catch - while seated at the scorer's table!

Not to be!

The Everton C2 Comets played day 2 of their two-day home game against Ashgrove on Peter Gallagher oval.

Sadly, it wasn't a great outing with the bat for the Dads and Lads.  The quality swing bowling from the Ashgrove team kept the scoring low and the wickets tumbled regularly.  The Dads and Lads were bowled out for 54.

Top scorers were Quinn (12 off 67  balls), Lennox (12 off 11 balls) and Brad (11 of 9 balls).
There weren't many highlights from the first innings with the bat, but one was definitely Tom Clapham's unbreakable defence, finishing 2 not-out and as a shock to many,  Brad managed to hit a full-toss, which coincidentally deprived Ashgrove's bowler of  a hat-trick!

Ashgrove's second innings with the bat started with their openers clearly being given a license to make fast runs, with both batsmen swinging for the fences.  When Lennox snared a clean bowled putting Ashgrove at 1-49, they declared.

The Comets' second innings with the bat saw an improved performance with a focus on defence.  Solid contributions with the bat from Thomas Fegan (11 of 69 balls), Leo (28 off 29 balls) and Lennox (20 off 29 balls) saw the day end with the Comets on 5-74.

The Dads and Lads are still in with a fighting chance to make the finals and have another crack at Ashgrove!

Game on!

The Everton C2 Comets played Ashgrove in a two-day home game on Peter Gallagher oval.  Ashgrove are currently in first place, so the Dads and Lads were going to have to bring their "A game".

Captain Gibbo won the toss and sent Ashgrove into bat, with the two Toms opening the bowling. Tom Clapham started with his typical line and length, beating the edge multiple times and at the other end, Thomas Fegan had the batsmen guessing with his spin.  Tom Clapham snared the first wicket with a clean bowled, putting Ashgrove at 1-31 and then eight runs later Tom had his second clean bowled.  The first bowling change continued with the pace-spin combo of Aaron and Leo and Aaron grabbed his first wicket when the batsmen lofted one to Brad at mid-on, with the score at 3-74.

Ashgrove's batsmen dug in and staged a fight back, with consistent run-making, until a strategic bowling change by Gibbo, saw Wayne with the ball.  Wayne's variations in flight and pace had the Ashgrove batsmen second guessing their shots, creating multiple half-chances, until the teams went to the tea break. During tea, Lennox handed the keeping gloves to Brad, so he could start the next session with the ball.  Lennox's first ball almost brough immediate success, with what many thought was a caught behind.  The bowling combo of Wayne and Lennox slowed the runs, but it was Leo's next spell when things started to go Everton's way.  Following Wayne's example, Leo's bowling was a brilliant mixture of flight and pace changes, which quickly brought results, snaring three wickets in three overs.  Leo's first wicket was a beautiful clean bowled that turned a mile, straight through the gate, clipping the off bail.   At the other end, Quinn was equally challenging for the Ashgrove batsmen taking two wickets in successive balls.  Quinn's hat-trick ball was a gem, but handled well by the batsman.  With Ashgrove at 8-174, Gibbo brought back the pace attack of Aaron and Tom Clapham to finish off the tail.  In his second over, Tom's beautiful slower ball totally deceived the batsman, skying a shot to the safe hands of Duncan at long-on.  Aaron took the last wicket thanks to a great, running catch by Leo at mid-off.  It was a great effort by the Dads and Lads, keeping Ashgrove under 200 to finish at 10-195.

Quinn and Thomas Fegan opened the batting, having to face seven overs until the end of play.  Ashgrove's opening bowlers were both quality, swinging and cutting the ball, beating the bat on multiple occasions.  With Quinn and Thomas both having shown great defence and patience, it looked like the day would end with Everton not losing a wicket, until Thomas copped an almost unplayable ball, on the very last ball of the day.  The ball started at middle and leg, swung out late and just clipped the off stump.  Disappointed, but still able to acknowledge an amazing delivery, Thomas walked off with the respectful words of "Well, that was a peach!"

Everton finished the day at 1-6 and raring to go for Day two!

A gutsy effort.........

The Everton C2 Comets took on the Waraba Blazers in  Day two of their two-day away game.

With last week's play ending with Leo taking a wicket mid-over, the Dads and Lads took the field full of enthusiasm and ready to rip in! Leo finished his over and started a great bowling partnership with Ben, both creating half chances, restricting runs, but unfortunately, not taking any wickets.  The following bowling partnerships of Tom and Quinn, Thomas and Aaron all bowled well, but again, without luck.  The Comets missed some sharp chances and anything back of a length or short was punished by the Waraba batsmen.  It was a slow grind for the Comets, until Aaron finally made the breakthrough, thanks to a great catch by the ever-reliable, Duncan at mid-on, but the Blazers had already passed the Comets total, giving them first innings points.

Eager to bowl, the drinks break saw Lennox hand the keeping gear over to Ben and Lennox had immediate effect, taking a wicket with a yorker on his first ball.  The Comets kept up the intensity in the field and their bowling, taking regular wickets, but luck certainly seemed to be on Waraba's side, with multiple miscued shots landing safely in gaps and more missed chances by the Comets.  Tom was finally rewarded for his consistent, quality bowling with a clean bowled just before the tea-break, when Waraba declared at 8-193.

Leo and Ben opened the batting, with defence the order of the day.  There wasn't enough time left in the day for the Comets to make enough runs to send Waraba back in for a chance at an outright win, so the plan was for the Comets' batsmen to see out the day.  Leo and Ben created an innings of rock-solid defence and textbook strokes, with a 100 ball partnership until Leo was eventually bowled by a ball that the umpire described as "an absolute gem!".  The next Comets batsmen, Quinn, Thomas and Tom  all stuck to the plan, focusing on partnerships built on solid defence, ensuring that Waraba wouldn't secure an outright win.

The final highlight of the game came in the last over of the day.  Realising that there was no chance of an outright victory, Waraba offered to end the game early, at the completion of the next over from one of their rarely used, part-time bowlers.  Tom took guard for the final over, with the Waraba players begging him to hit their part-time bowler for 6.  The stakes were raised, when one of the close-in Waraba fielders offered Tom $50 if he could hit the 6.  Tom obliged in spectacular fashion, hitting not one, but two, massive 6s, blasting 20 runs off the final over!!! True to their word, Tom pocketed a fresh $50 note from the Waraba players at the end of the game.

Special mention to the following players for their efforts with the ball.
Leo - 3 for 28 off 12 overs
Lennox - 3 for 19 off 5 overs
Tom - 1 for 22 off 12 overs
Ben - 0 for 15 off 10 overs
A solid effort by the Dads and Lads.

In the fight.........

The Everton C2 Comets took on the Waraba Blazers in  Day one of their two-day away game.

Stand-in Captain Brad, won the toss and against every bone in his body, decided to bat.

With all the recent rain, the soft outfield and thick grass it was always going to be slow going for the batsmen, but the opening pair of Ben and Thomas were soon to learn just how difficult run making was going to be and how important watchful and concise calling was going to be.  Ben cracked a shot to mid-wicket that looked certain for at least a double, or possibly a boundary, but to everyone's surprise the ball pulled up dramatically in the slow outfield, allowing the fielder to reach it sooner than expected.  A rocket throw from the fielder, right next to the stumps for the keeper saw Ben caught well short and run-out.  From that point on, the Dads and Lads' batsmen knew that it was going to be a long, slow grind to make runs, but most importantly, that the calling and running between the wickets needed to be top-shelf to avoid any more run-outs.

The Dads and Lads continued the slow build of runs with all of the batsmen getting poor value for their shots.  Shots that would normally race to the boundary were singles, and doubles were rarely taken due to the sharp fielding by Waraba.  Several batsmen tried to take the aerial approach, but if there was too much elevation on the shot, the ball would just plug in the soft outfield, short of the boundary.  All of the Comet's batsmen contributed, but yet again, Leo(18) and Chris(35) were our leaders with the bat, with scores that would probably be worth more than double on a different ground. Concerningly, the Comets learned that Brad is incapable of hitting a full-toss.  Wearing two and being bowled by the third!

The final wicket fell courtesy of another run-out, due to the slow outfield and the Comets finished on 10-112.

The Comets bowling innings started with an excellent opening partnership by Ben and Tom Clapham.  Both boys bowled well, beating the bat numerous times and with great support in the field,  finished their spells with Waraba and 0-16 after 10 overs.  The next change saw Aaron and Thomas Fegan with the ball.  Both boys kept up the good bowling, maintaining pressure and creating chances, but the Comets just couldn't get that elusive first wicket.  Thomas and Aaron finished their spells with Waraba at 0-35 after 15 overs.  After two bowling partnerships of pace it was time for a change and Leo and Quinn were brought on with their dual spin attack.  Leo's first over had the Waraba batsmen bamboozled, getting two edges in one over, but neither of them being held. To his credit, Leo put the missed chances behind him and stayed focused, getting straight back to it! Quinn's first over also had the Waraba batsmen weary and watchful.  Leo began his next over, totally deceiving the batsman with a beautiful change of pace, causing the batsman to sky the ball for Brad to hold the catch at mid-off.  The Dads and Lads had that elusive first wicket and were away!!!!  Quinn and Leo continued to work their magic, keeping the Waraba batsmen guessing, until Leo struck again, three overs later with a sharp catch by Thomas Fegan in slips.

The day finished with Waraba at 2-48 after 22 overs.

The Dads and Lads are definitely in the fight!!!

So close..............

The Everton C2 Comets played Day one of their two-day game against North Brisbane United at Marchant Park and put on a solid showing with the bat.

It was a slow and steady start by the opening pair of Ben and Thomas, until Ben was out for 5, bringing Lennox to the crease.  In his typical "take no prisoners" attitude, Lennox smashed eight boundaries in quick time until he was out caught, for 40.  With Thomas out LBW for 10 that brought Leo and Stand-in Captain, Chris to the crease together.   In a similar fashion to their first game, Leo and Chris built a strong partnership combining  power hitting, cheeky singles and text book defence.  Chris was out, bowled for 53, ending the partnership, but Leo continued to pile on the runs from partnerships with Quinn, Aaron, Rony and Tom.  Leo looked unstoppable as the inning's anchor, until his well struck cover drive was brilliantly caught by a sharp, low to the ground catch.  Heartbreakingly, Leo's innings which included 13 fours and a big six, ended with him on 99!  The entire team was devastated for him, knowing how hard he had worked for that innings and how much he deserved that 100. Duncan and Wayne pushed the team total to 267, until Duncan was caught playing an exquisite sweep shot.

The Comets came out ready to rip in for their bowling innings and it was no surprise to anyone, that after his amazing 5-fa last match, Thomas was sharing the new ball with Ben.  Both boys started well, beating the bat and having the batsmen guessing, until Ben struck with a clean bowled in the third over, leaving North Brisbane United at 1 - 3.  The team continued to build pressure with sharp fielding and constant chat, resulting in Ben bagging another clean bowled in the seventh over and the opposition total at 1 - 6.  Tom, Quinn, Leo and Chris continued the quality bowling until the end of the day's play, leaving North Brisbane United on 2 - 29.

The Dads and Lads are in a great position!  Hopefully the weather plays nice this week and they get have a chance at another win!

Special mention again to Leo on an amazing innings of 99!

The Dads and Lads get the chocolates!!!!

The Everton C2 Comets took on Wynnum Manly in an one-day, away game at Marchant Park and with all the recent rain, it was always going to be an interesting wicket.

Wynnum were put into bat and the Comets opened the bowling with the two Toms - Tom Clapham and Thomas Fegan.  Both boys bowled well, making use of the very unpredictable bounce in the pitch and in the third over, Tom Clapham bagged his first wicket thanks to a sharp catch, held at point by Leo.  Four balls later, Tom had his second wicket when Brad held a catch at mid-on, with Wynnum at 2 - 4.

The Comets kept the pressure up in the field and in the 7th over Thomas Fegan had his first wicket thanks to a lightning fast stumping by Lennox. Two balls later, Thomas had his second wicket when Brad took a "diving" catch at gully. The boys were quick to remind Brad that at his age, it's called a fall, not a dive! 🤪. Two overs later, Thomas had two more wickets thanks to catches by Chris and Brad, with Wynnum at 6-14.

Our first bowling change brought on Leo and Quinn with a spin attack. Both boys bowled well, beating the bat numerous times and continuing to build pressure on the batsman.  In the 15th over, Quinn struck with two wickets. The first was a gem, bowling the batsman around their legs and the second was another sharp stumping by Lennox, putting Wynnum at 8 - 33.  Leo bowled well, turning the ball a mile,  changing up his pace and keeping the batsmen constantly guessing, but just wasn't able to take that elusive wicket. The Dads and Lads were full of encouragement and energy in the field with multiple boundary saves by Duncan, a run-out chance by a watchful, quick thinking Quinn and great attempts at sharp chances by Gibbo, Chris, Paul and Ben.

After the drinks break, the two Toms were back in action and both boys got straight back to where they left off, building pressure with their quality bowling.  With 4 wickets in his bag already, all the Dads and Lads were right behind Thomas Fegan, pumping him up and encouraging him to snare his first ever 5fa and in the 23rd over it happened, thanks to a beautiful clean bowled.   An outstanding display of bowling and well deserved by Thomas, finishing with 5 -13.  Chris took the last wicket with a well flighted leggie that the batsman edged to Brad in slip.  A great effort with the ball by the Dads and Lads to have Wynnum 10 - 65 in the 28th over.

The Comets top order made short work of the small total,  with contributions from Quinn (4 off 7), Ben (11 off 23), amazing power hitting by Lennox (38 off 24), Gibbo (0 off 1) and Leo (5 off 5).  Leo hit the winning run in the 10th over, to have the Comets 3 - 66.

A great effort by the Dads and Lads to get their first win and have them sitting third in the comp!

Special mention again to Thomas "China" Fegan on his first 5fa!

Winter cricket is back for the 2026 season!!!!

With Round 1 rained out last week, this was the first time Everton's latest offering to the Senior Winter Warehouse competition would get to take to the field. Affectionately known as the "Dads & Lads",  the C2 Comets are a mixture of some of our talented U14 players and various senior players, coming out of retirement🩼🤕🤪.

The Comets took on the Waraba Blazers in a 1 Day game at home and the game was played in a friendly, but competitive spirit with great sportsmanship on show throughout the day.

Everton batted first and early contributions from Ben (20 of 42), Lennox (18 off 9) and Gibbo (9 off 11) helped steady the ship and laid the platform for a great partnership filled with power hitting to all parts of the ground, cheeky singles and quality defensive technique, between Leo (34 off 80) and Chris (46 off 40).  Wayne blasted a quick-fire 10 off 5, before he was out, bringing Brad to the crease, only to be robbed 98 short of a 100, when he was run-out for 2, leaving the ever reliable Thomas finishing 5 not-out and the final total at 10-156.

The Comets' bowling account was opened by Thomas and Ben, who both used the new ball well.  Ben struck in his second over with a beautiful inswing yorker, smashing the stumps to give the "Dads & Lads" their first ever wicket!💥  Two overs later, quick reactions by Lennox behind the stumps gave Ben his second wicket, with a sharp caught-behind.  From there, it was a tough slog for the team in the field, with multiple dropped catches and sharp chances going down.  It looked like Leo had gotten us back in the game with a sharp caught-behind by Lennox, but the whole-team appeal was denied.  Quinn bowled well without reward, until he finally bagged a wicket, trapping the batsman LBW in the 19th over.  Tom Clapham also bowled well, beating the bat numerous times, until he finally got the edge and Lennox held another catch for our final wicket in the 25th over.

The Blazers hit the winning runs in the 31st over, finishing 4-157.

Special mention to 12th Man Duncan, for an outstanding performance in the field when called upon!

Not the result we were hoping for, but still a pretty good run for our first outing, with plenty of positives!

The team headed out to Wally Tate Park to take on Kuraby in round 6.

After sitting the last Two Dayer out, captain Chris Wells was back and straight back to winning coin tosses as we sent Kuraby into bat.

Josh Billing claimed his first wicket for the club in just the second over of the match. A crucial partnership form which was broken by Jamie Kraus. From there the wickets kept falling regularly, Josh Burchill the pick of the bowlers with a maiden 5 wicket haul finishing with figures of 5-19 off 6 overs.

Day one came to a close with Everton at 4-51 due to bad light. Day two resumed with Brodie Russell and Chris Wells at the crease as they set about continuing the innings. In tough conditions with a storm rolling in after two days of rain previously, the battle was on. Jamie Kraus and Tim Nelson came together and fought hard to take as much time out of the game as possible but once Jamie fell, the remaining wickets fell quickly too. Everton falling 40 runs and 20 minutes short.

With an honourable mention to Brodie Russell who took 3 catches during the match.
We can’t go passed Josh Burchill’s excellent bowling effort. His 5-19 was the first 5 wicket haul for us this season, hopefully the first of many!

Round 4 and its the first two day match of the season.  We lost the toss and were sent in to bat.

Blake and Shaun once again got the innings off to a great start but once again, Everton collapsed posting 99 runs all out.

The bowlers toiled hard all day with little reward before Tim Nelson broke through with the first wicket of the day with 97 runs on the board before grabbing himself another. Not much luck until Shaun Cullen was thrown the ball and with what would end up being the final over of the day, he picked up 2 wickets.

Day 2 started with Everton back in the field and club debutant Nik Marchetti completing the final over from last week and was virtually unplayable picking up what would be our only wicket of the day.

227 runs behind as our second innings started and we could not match our start from last week, collapsing early on. With time getting, wickets tumbling and a storm rolling in, Jamie Kraus (18* off 90) and Ollie Pain (27* off 53) put on what would be a match saving partnership.

Just after the final drinks break of the day, the rain came, the covers came on and outright defeat was avoided

We will pick ourselves up, dust ourselves and gear up for our next 2 day game at home against Ashgrove!

Back at home this week and the day got off to a good start with Wellsie winning the toss and electing to bat.

Returning stalwart Shaun Cullen resumed his customary spot at the top of the order and ensured a fast start for us on his way to 28 off 22, as club debutant Blake Litchfield took to steering the ship making 26 off 25. Wickets then tumbled around Jack Veljacic who made 22 off 37 and we were eventually bowled out for 98.

11th hour call up, Ollie pain took 2/24 in his opening spell taking his season total to 7. Jake Druery, Ben Hurst, and Chris Wells joining Ollie in the wicket column each taking one wicket. Unfortunately the WLD lions chased down the total with 5 wickets to spare.

This week’s MVP: Ollie pain! He was set to be rested this week but with the late scratching of Nic Muller, Ollie was more than happy to step up and continue his great start to the season.

The day had a good start with Wellsie winning the toss and electing to field first.

Needing to get off to a good start, Jamie Kraus and Ollie Pain provided. Jamie snaring one and Ollie getting two. Ben Hurst came on and grabbed his first two wickets of the season leading them to be 5-67 at drinks. Unfortunately that's where the game turned. The ball got old, the fast outfield came into play and the runs started flowing. Jack Veljacic, in his second game for Everton came on and broke the partnership on his way to 2-29 off his 3. Ollie Pain came back at the end and took another wicket finishing with 3-41 off 7.

Rochedale amassed 9-199 and needing 200 for victory, our batting innings mirrored Rochedale’s with the top order finding it tough to get started on. We made it to drinks at 4-61 before Gerrad Plattz and Brodie Russell (on club debut) put on a partnership that gave us a chance at unlikely victory before Gerrad perished for 59 off 44 and later Brodie for 48 off 41. A couple of late order cameos not quite enough in the end falling 16 runs short.

This week’s MVP: Gerrad Plattz! For not only scoring our first 50 and top scoring, but if he was able to run more two’s Brodie would have made 60!

SATURDAY 20/09/2025 - SUMMER CRICKET IS BACK!!!

Seniors - C1
The C1’s 2025/26 season got off to a winning start defeating Redlands Sharks at Peter Gallagher Oval.

A batting partnership between Tim Nelson (37 off 44) Jamie Kraus (44* off 59) with contributions throughout the order, set up a spirited batting display on the way to finish 8/180.

In Ollie Pain’s first game back from injury last year, he was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 2/10 off 4 overs.
Josh Birchill also chimed in with 2/16 off 3.

MVP this week: Dean Johnson! On senior debut, he was busy in field and even picked up his first wicket.

On to Rochedale South Vipers next week at Underwood Park
