Junior Duo Smash Club Record in Stunning U13s Partnership
Everton Districts Cricket Club is celebrating an incredible achievement in its junior ranks, after a club record-breaking performance by two of its Under 13 players on Saturday.
In a remarkable display of resilience and skill, Ryker Rostron and Alex Hayes forged a stunning 150-run partnership, setting a new all-time record for the club's junior program.
The partnership was particularly heroic given the circumstances. With the team reduced to just nine players due to illness and absences, the duo came together at a precarious 7/61, effectively as the final wicket partnership.
Ryker Rostron was the star with the bat, reaching his maiden century with a brilliant knock of 104 not out from just 86 balls, including 16 boundaries. He was ably supported by Alex Hayes, who played a composed and crucial anchoring role, contributing 30 runs from 78 balls.
The young cricketers kept the opposition in the field for a significant period, ticking off milestone after milestone: the team reaching 100, their own 50-run and 100-run partnerships, and then the crowning moment of Ryker's century. Their incredible stand was finally broken just after they celebrated their 150-run milestone.
While Ryker was brilliant and responsible for the bulk of the scoring, Alex's role in the partnership cannot be understated. He held up his end with maturity, ran hard between the wickets, and provided the solid support needed to allow Ryker to play his attacking game.
The entire club extends massive congratulations to both Ryker and Alex on this truly historic and memorable achievement!
The club was thrilled to welcome Luke Feldman, the respected former Queensland Bulls and Australian fast bowler, who visited Everton to run an intensive fast bowling coaching clinic. The session was specifically designed to upskill our current junior coaches and managers, providing them with elite knowledge to bring back to their teams.
Known for his distinguished first-class career, Luke spent quality time with Everton's most promising young quicks: Ollie, Ben, Ryker, and Alex, putting our resident speedsters through a variety of high-intensity training and conditioning drills, focused on building pace, consistency, and endurance.
Luke provided detailed, one-on-one expert analysis of each bowler's action, with personalised feedback, explaining the critical dynamics of fast bowling, covering everything from the run-up and gather, to maximizing the transfer of force at the crease, and achieving a powerful, repeatable release. This in-depth explanation into the technical aspects ensures our coaches and players now have a greater understanding of the biomechanics required for sustained fast bowling success.
The clinic was a fantastic opportunity for our club to learn from a top-tier professional, reinforcing our commitment to developing high-quality cricket skills across all age groups.
Many thanks to Luke and our promising club quicks, Ollie, Ben, Ryker and Alex.
Week two of the representative cricket season brought more intense action for the four talented Everton Districts players, featuring a key head-to-head clash and impressive individual efforts with both bat and ball.
Casey Cup (U12) Highlights
The U12 competition saw an exciting contest as Ryker Rostron (Team Philp) faced off against Alex Hayes (Team Wright), with Alex's team taking the win in a competitive match.- Alex Hayes overcame his shoulder injury to contribute strongly. With the ball, he bowled well to finish with 1 wicket for 17 runs off 5 overs. He was also solid with the bat, retiring on a composed 10 runs.
- Ryker Rostron delivered an exceptional, yet unlucky opening spell for his team, bowling 6 overs for just 8 runs. He then batted down the order, looking good for 12 runs before his innings ended on a tired shot.
Elsewhere, Henry Jacobson (Team Kerr) and his team went down in a close one. While Henry didn't have his best day with the bat, he put in a high-quality effort with the ball, finishing with figures identical to Alex's: 1 wicket for 17 runs off 5 overs.
Anstey La Frantz Shield (U14)
In the U14 competition, Leo Brumm (Bushrangers) and his team were involved in another nail-biting, close loss.
- Leo led the way with the bat on what you might describe as a very tricky pitch, green enough that you could not define the outfield from the edge of the wicket! He top-scored for his team showing excellent composure scoring 17 off 65 balls in the teams total 81.
- He also chipped in with a useful spell, bowling 3 handy overs for just 7 runs.
Congratulations boys, it's fantastic to see our juniors performing consistently across all facets of the game!
Last Friday night was buzzing at Everton Districts Cricket Club as we officially kicked off a brand new round of the Woolworths Blast Cricket program!
This fantastic initiative, proudly supported by Woolworths, is all about igniting a love for cricket in our newest and youngest players through a super-fun, game-based approach. It’s the perfect way for kids to develop fundamental skills in a pressure-free and social environment.
With over 30 enthusiastic children (or as we call them - Blasters) attending, our dedicated volunteers certainly had their work cut out for them! Leading the charge was Chris, the EDCC Junior Coordinator, supported by Harry from QLD Cricket and a fantastic group of keen young volunteers from our own EDCC U14s & U16s squads.
The energy levels were high and our new Blasters were absolutely raring to go! For the next action-packed 90 minutes, they had a brilliant time rotating through different stations, learning new skills like batting and bowling, and just as importantly, making plenty of new friends.
The evening wrapped up with the classic tradition of a sausage sizzle, leaving everyone with full bellies and some very happy, worn-out Blasters.
We can't wait for the excitement to continue!
Mark your calendars, next Friday is Round 2!
Everton Districts Cricket Club had four talented junior representative players in action this weekend across the Casey Cup (U12) and the Anstey La Frantz Shield (U14). Our juniors represented the club with distinction, showing off their skills and determination.
Casey Cup (U12) Highlights
The U12 competition saw a thrilling match-up with Alex Hayes (Team Wright) and Henry Jacobson (Team Kerr) facing off. Team Wright ultimately prevailed in a tight contest.- Henry Jacobson delivered an outstanding bowling performance for Team Kerr, finishing with the superb figures of 4 overs, 2 maidens, 2 wickets for just 7 runs.
- Alex Hayes also delivered a strong performance, contributing to Team Wright's win with the ball, despite a sore shoulder limiting him to 2 overs, taking 1 wicket for only 2 runs.
- The boys didn't get among the runs this week, but their excellent contributions with the ball were crucial for their respective teams.
Elsewhere, Ryker Rostron (Team Philp) had a brilliant all-around game to help his team secure a victory!
- Ryker batted at number 4 and looked impressive, scoring a composed 19 runs from 30 balls. His sizzling cover drive was perhaps the shot of the day!
- He backed up his batting with a terrific bowling spell, finishing with 1 wicket from 4 overs for 10 runs.
Anstey La Frantz Shield (U14)
In the U14 competition, Leo Brumm (Bushrangers) and his team fell just short in their chase. Chasing 196 for the win, the Bushrangers were bowled out for 188.
Unfortunately, it wasn't Leo's day on the field; he didn't get a chance to bowl and was dismissed for a duck. But, as they say, cream rises to the top, and we all know Leo will be back better and stronger next game.
Farewell to the Club Vice President!
The EDCC Club and Committee would like to say a massive thank you and a fond farewell to our amazing "outgoing" Club Vice President, Shaun "Disco" Stuart!
After almost two decades (an incredible innings) as the EDCC Club VP, Disco is stepping down from his role.
His passion for cricket, his unwavering commitment to the EDCC family and his boundless enthusiasm for supporting the club in almost any capacity, have been truly legendary. If you've ever been to a special event at the club or just visited the grounds, chances are you would've seen Disco around.
Disco will remain on the EDCC committee, but we're so grateful for his many years of service as VP and we simply wouldn't be the club we are today without him.
Thanks Disco!
